Braces Pain Causes - Other Culprits of Braces Discomfort

Getting braces installed is painful because the teeth are not used to having brackets and wires attached to them. The brackets and wires are responsible for aligning the teeth
. Every 2-4 weeks, you will visit your orthodontist for your regular check-up and tightening. During these visits, your orthodontist will put more pressure and force on your teeth so it gradually moves the teeth. This process is painful but the pain you may feel should not be solely blamed on this process. There are other braces pain causes that you should be aware of so you'll be prepared to address the problem once it happens. Here are some information that can help you diminish your agony:

1. Mouth Sores and Ulcerations
One of the most common braces pain causes is the development of sores and ulcers in your mouth. This is due to the inner part of the mouth that is scraped by the metal brackets and wires that rub on that area. Since the inner mouth is made of soft tissue, it can easily get scraped and lead to sores. If you don't treat the sores, they will become bigger and more painful. For a new braces patient, several sores can form around the mouth which are very painful. But as long as you drink plenty of water, Vitamin C, you brush your teeth regularly and use dental wax, the pain should be alleviated.
2. Tooth Pain
Tooth pain is also one of the common braces pain causes that happens every time the braces are adjusted. Teeth are bones and significant amount of force is necessary to move them around especially when the orthodontist is trying to align all your teeth. This means that all your teeth will suffer tremendous pain. The teeth can be very painful that refrains you from eating well. The best way to relieve toothache is to take pain relievers or eat something cold to numb your gums.
3. Poking or Protruding Arch Wires
Sometimes after you visit the orthodontist, that's when you notice that the arch wire wasn't cut properly. The arch wire is poking the inner part of your mouth and is causing your pain. Poking arch wires is another common braces pain causes. To get this fixed, apply dental wax, get it adjusted or cut it properly as soon as possible.
4. Tooth Decay
The last cause of braces pain is tooth decay. You are wondering what's the relation between tooth decay and braces, right? Brace wearers tend to practice poor dental hygiene because the braces are hard to clean. They think brushing the teeth is enough, but it really isn't. If the patient isn't keen on cleaning his or her teeth and braces, he or she will end up with tooth decay which can cause severe pain.
As you can see, the actual orthodontic appliances are not always the main braces pain causes. There are also other things that you should check on before you blame it all on your new braces.
